The Art of bluffing at poker
One of the most crucial acts to get the hang of in online poker is the so called “art of bluffing”. A bluff is when you convince someone you have the better hand by either raising the blind or by betting, even when you actually have nothing in your hand worth calling. You put in enough chips and the idea is that is scares your opponent into folding the stronger hand. Misrepresentation is just one the finer parts of playing poker whether online or in a casino. This is the reason effective bluffing has become an essential trick in any form of poker.
Players who have already displayed tendency to fold readily are the simplest targets of a bluff. Bets that other players make should allow you to gather some information on this player’s hand and style of play. In the pre flop if you bluff too early versus a tight player and he folds his hand, you should think twice before you try it again in the following round. This player might have decent cards next time! You must try and work out whether this player has what’s called a “drawing hand”.
Your bluff is more likely to succeed versus a flimsy player who has already checked his big blind. Looking for other player’s weaknesses and capitalizing on them could be the most effective time to bluff. That is when you are betting into a pot in a lead position and the other players before you have all either checked or folded their cards.
